Dr Jeannette McGarry
Dr. Jeannette McGarry was born and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. When she was 4 years old, she decided to become a veterinarian, and worked with animals until she left for college in Maine. She attended Nasson College in Springfield Maine, and while there, she became the student director for the state’s water quality laboratory as well as the senior laboratory director for the college Science Departments. She graduated with honors in three majors, including Biology, Chemistry and Laboratory Sciences.
Following graduation, Dr. McGarry began research work on cryoprecipitation and coagulation with the American Red Cross Blood Research Laboratory while working toward a Master’s Degree in Pathophysiology at the University of Maryland. She coauthored published research in cryoprecipitation and animal behavior. It was during this time that she was accepted into the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine program and was awarded her DVM degree in 1985. She moved to North Carolina to be closer to her family and has been there since. She enjoys her work with companion animals, but her special interests are in feline medicine and behavior.
Outside of work she enjoys nature conservation, anything to do with martial arts and reading. She lives with her cats and her cats’ fish.
